New Addition to Live ARC Salon
We are pleased to announce that The Coming Rain by David Santillanes has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.

“This painting began as a plein air study on a sunny afternoon by Crystal Creek. The story and the painting quickly changed as storm clouds began to build over the mountains. The Coming Rain is about those moments just before the storm, when a quiet stillness takes over the landscape.” – Dave Santillanes

The 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition will be on view at the Salmagundi Club, NYC from May 12th – June 1st with the public opening reception on Saturday, May 13th from 11am to 3pm. The works will then travel to the MEAM Museum, Barcelona where they will be on view from September 23rd – November 27th.

New Work Added to Live ARC Salon
We are pleased to announce that Reflection by Matthew Bober has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“I designed this painting around the idea of setting up a still life in water. Setting up a dark lined reflecting pool in relation with the subdued chromatic background, the floating flowers, and the dark pedestal in the center all combined to create the atmosphere I was trying to achieve, stillness, and a feeling of architecture being taken back to a natural state. Atop the alter I was interested in the interplay of the delicate decay of the doll’s wax face and the sharp angular highlights of the plastic encompassing the monkey skull; so different, yet both belonging in that work. In my work, I give great thought to every object I let in, the light, the colors, the design, always making sure it is as tight as it can be and all working together to convey the emotion intended.” – Matthew Bober
The 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition will be on view at the Salmagundi Club, NYC from May 12th – June 1st with the public opening reception on Saturday, May 13th from 11am to 3pm. New Work Added to Live ARC Salon
We are pleased to announce that Indian Peahen by Grace Kim has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.

“I chose to paint the head of the Indian Peahen to draw attention to a bird that is unfamiliar, and often overlooked. The peacock, which only refers to the males of the species, is widely recognized by its iridescent blue and green plumage. The peahen is often described as ‘drab’ and ‘mottled brown’ in comparison, and is rarely an artist’s focus. When I created Indian Peahen, the most challenging aspect was painting the crown of the peahen. It took well over one month to reproduce the detail and intricacy of the individual feathers. Just like in our society, where there is a disparity between men and women, this is also the case with the peafowl. The peacock gets all the attention, and all the glory, while the peahen is ignored. I enjoyed capturing and showcasing the peahen’s inherent beauty.” – Grace Kim

New Addition to Live ARC Salon
We are pleased to announce that Crimson Ribbon by Heather Theurer has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.

“As the years have passed and I’ve experienced more of life, I’ve discovered with somewhat of a sad realization that it is human nature to want to take the easy path, the one that requires the least of us and that makes no demands upon our attention or time. We put our blinders on, so to speak, and go about our daily tasks with very little thought of the extraordinary. Crimson Ribbon is a fearless refusal of this frame of mind. While the title points out only a minuscule portion of the painting, representing our absorption by the mundane, the remainder of the painting insists that we enjoy a broader view. There is beauty all around us, in the tiniest of details, if we will but take the time to observe, and once we have had a true taste of the magnificent beauty of the earth, we are changed forever.” – Heather Theurer

The 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition will be on view at the Salmagundi Club, NYC from May 12th – June 1st with the public opening reception on Saturday, May 13th from 11am to 3pm. New Work Added to Live Salon
We are pleased to announce that I Am My Word by Nik Anikis Skusek has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“I Am My Word is a still life painted in honor of all brave fireman that assisted, unconditionally, hundreds of people in need of help. The Fire Museum of Sevnica, where I come from, lent me a parade helmet, sword and a badge all from 1918 for the creation of this painting. This tenebrist still life is a metaphor for help coming from the darkness and for bringing help as well, symbolized by the light and dramatic color in the foreground. The light and dark contrast on the objects create a beautiful depth, from the background all the way to the written statement on the table. The letter in the foreground is an oath to people that Fireman gave when they decided on this path of help, a declaration of sacrifice, danger and risk. Even though these objects are Yugoslavian, the painting is an anthem to all brave men and women who gave their lives in sacrifice for others anywhere on Earth. I am grateful to the Fire Museum of Sevnica for their trust and support.” -Nik Anikis Skusek

New Addition to the ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Annunciation by Ken Salaz has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“I approached this landscape painting not in terms of a mirror reflection of the world around us, but rather as a psychological reflection on the real meaning of our possibilities here on earth. It is essential to take a moment and reflect and ponder, ‘What is the real meaning of my existence on earth?’ Close observation of nature can shed a new light on the question that applies to each human on earth. Somewhere in the thick woods of the Catskill Mountains, I encountered a sanctuary, a secluded cove, on a forgotten lake, where the rebirth of nature was taking place before my eyes. The sun was emerging with renewed vigor, announcing the birth of the ‘Primavera’. The harshness of winter gave way to a new spring, pierced by the heated and glowing rays of Apollo. How is it that nature performs this miracle of re-birth each year and yet we remain oblivious to its message? Are we not ourselves, as men and women, capable of such a transcendent transformation? May the golden sunlight of spring pierce our hearts and urge each of us to seek our higher natures and live them daily, reverently, and boldly.” – Ken Salaz

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that The Whale Watcher by Duffy Sheridan has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.

“My wife and I have been living in Kauai for a few years now and in that time, we have learned a new skill, whale watching. There are few things more pleasurable than scanning the sea before you on a clear, warm Hawaiian day. In this painting, I was simply trying to capture that wonderful concentration that overtakes a practiced whale watcher.” – Duffy Sheridan

Duffy Sheridan is represented by Jones and Terwilliger Galleries in Carmel and Palm Desert, California and Mary Martin Galleries in Naples, Florida and Charleston, South Carolina.

Self-Portrait Exhibition

Self Portrait with St. Jerome
by Colleen Barry
Curated by artist Colleen Barry, SELF-PORTRAIT convenes 27 leaders of the contemporary realist revival for a painting and drawing show that celebrates self-portraiture.

Exhibited works display a cross-section of styles, many representative of the pedagogies of the world’s foremost art academies: The Lyme Academy, The Florence Academy of Art, Grand Central Atelier, the School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League. Celebrating an artistic practice that reaches back to the Renaissance, the works of SELF-PORTRAIT offer compelling evidence that the legacy of great western art continues to live on through the practice of artists alive today.

The show runs from April 20 – June 20, 2017 with the opening reception on Thursday, April 20, 6-9 pm at Eleventh Street Arts, 46-06 11th St, Long Island City, NY 11101.

“It is only without the knowledge of the observed one that the observer is able to make judgements as this is what he truly sees. In this piece, I look upon my 15-year-old self without holding back any criticisms as I am aware that this girl is only just a fleeting memory of the past immortalized in an image.” – Ray Wanda Totanes

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Non Fiction by Casey Childs has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“I think every person who has a love for the literary world can relate to this painting. Libraries are inspiring places that contain a wealth of knowledge just waiting to be explored. Many hours can be spent wandering through a sea of volumes of various shapes, sizes, and colors; up and down shelves, back and forth through stacks, searching for that perfect work. Sometimes the greatest joy is in the search. Looking for that one book that will entertain us, educate us, inspire us; a solitary task that can only be accomplished alone. And like a shining light, when that hidden gem is discovered, it is like we found a new friend.” – Casey Childs

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Sword in Hand, Greed of Command by Bruno Galuzzi Corsini has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“Sword in Hand, Greed of Command was inspired by the influence power can exert on a person. I come from Brazil, a country where corruption is very visible and at the same time it is hard to catch. That is something I wanted to portray using a character that was imbued with said power and would provoke you to wonder, ‘How did this man achieve such power?’ More importantly, now that he wields it, what will he use it for? I aim to raise such questions to create a story behind the image. Creating an image with meaning is my ultimate goal as an artist.” – Bruno Galuzzi Corsini

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Ara Martis by Bruno Vepkhvadze has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“The composition Ara Martis (Altar of Mars) is an allegory of rebirth of the ancient world. The artwork exhibits a combination of old and new, reconstructed brand new Roman armor, placed on the ancient original Roman altar. In this picture, I show how the ancient world and classic culture are given new life, deriving from the deep and solid past. The new Roman armor and old altar symbolically describes this idea, showing the great interest towards antique culture which reappeared in societies regularly throughout the centuries. For the role of this strong and solid base, I have chosen the Altar of Mars, the God of war, and one of the significant Roman mythological figures. The subject of this painting shows an old and mighty soul of the ancient world, which time by time has blown new life to the époques” – Bruno Vepkhvadze

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Laundry by Jeffrey T. Larson has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
Laundry is the latest in a long series of thematically based paintings. Thirty years ago I came across the Spanish artist Sorolla and it changed the course of my artistic life. I had been trained in the lineage of the Boston school as a classical impressionist, studying four years at Atelier Lack under Richard Lack. I had also spent several years painting outside ‘plein air’. I thought I had a solid direction for what could be done in capturing outdoor natural light, especially when working with the figure.
That is until I saw the Sorolla retrospective. It opened my eyes to another way of translating brilliant outdoor light onto canvas using our limited pigments. I never was interested in painting like him, but instead working to be just as good if possible in my own way. Working with the figure and the sheets as the subject, I had rare control outside, compositionally with color and pattern themes, along with designing quality of light. I could use bounced light, reflected light, transparent light, translucent light, flat light, all as compositional elements and artistic opportunities. With each painting that I have done over the years, I have learned much, but it is in this piece especially that I feel I have achieved something of what it was that I have been working towards.” – Jeffrey T. Larson

New Work Added to ARC Salon Exhibition
We are pleased to announce that Under Heaven by Taffari Crawford has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“The image is composed of a pair of black, male hands performing the ‘blood’ gang sign, with a few very small and delicate flowers placed between the fingers. I wanted to use this image because of how symbolic it appeared; the hands performing this gesture and its relation to violence, the symbolism of flowers and also, the word ‘blood’ and its meaning. I also find interesting, the physical representation of words and the abstraction which occurs when they are made from found objects. I found it interesting that this word could be made from just strategically wrapping your fingers together. There is something quite crude, juvenile and innocent about it, that I find interesting. The flowers are strategically placed in order to abstract the image of the hands a little, for those who maybe familiar with the sign. Conceptually, I think the flowers are seductive, making the image; which would commonly be viewed as negative; more approachable to reveal the quieter aspects it.” – Taffari Crawford

We are pleased to announce that Bather by Joshua LaRock has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
“Little else is as beautiful as natural light revealing the female form, Bather, is something of a sonnet to this radiance. The human form and drapery are two pillars of the classical tradition which I love and where I find constant inspiration, so that was the seed which grew into this work. However, I was seeking to paint it with a distinctly contemporary tone. That tension of attempting to tap into the underlying current of vitality which generated the timeless works of the past, while simultaneously producing them in a way that resonates with viewers today, is something I intend to keep juggling.” – Joshua LaRock

New Work Added to Live ARC Salon
We are pleased to announce that Moored in Calmness by Sergio Roffo has been added to the 12th International ARC Salon Exhibition.
Moored in Calmness was inspired by a salt water lagoon on the island Martha’s Vineyard. The study was 11 x 14in. and was painted ‘a la prima’. I finished it in one sitting on a late afternoon. As the study was near completion, the sun was just about to set, creating a wonderful glow on the scene that I tried to capture in the larger piece. The broken marsh and beach sand along with the contrast of the trees and shadow reflections completed the composition. I visited this area many times before and the mooring was always without a dory. On this particular day I was rewarded with a dory to complete the scene.” – Sergio Roffo
