| ARC is pleased to welcome ARC Living Master™ Joseph McGurl. | |
| Joseph is one of the few contemporary realists who do not, for philosophical reasons, include the use of photography in his art. For Joseph, the process, rather than the product, is the most important part of a painting. | |

| We are now accepting entries for the 2012 ARC Scholarship Competition. Once again we will be awarding $30,000 in funds towards aspiring artists who wish to learn traditional training methods taught at our approved ARC programs. To date we have awarded nearly $200,000 in scholarships alone.
Dear Fred & Kara, Again I would like to on behalf of the Angel Academy, it’s directors, faculty and students, express our deepest gratitude for your continuing assistance and generosity to all aspiring young artists (and not so young). Without your vision and support both financially and through your wonderful informative website I feel that this new realism would have taken much longer to attract the attention it now has. I would particularly like to thank you for awarding our students, Kresten Smedemark and Hayley Brown who were both received Third Place Prizes in your 2011 ARC Scholarship Competition. my warmest regards as always Lynne Barton To view the prospectus for our 2012 Scholarship Competition, click here. |

| ARC Living Master™, Jeffrey Watts, has made updates to both his personal gallery in the ARC Museum, and the Watts Atelier page as well. They are celebrating 20 Years of Excellence in Art Education this year at Watts Atelier and will round out the year with an Instructor/Student Benefit Show at the new Encinitas Library. They are also working to introduce an online version of their Atelier program: | |
|
"This is a tremendous undertaking an feel there is a great need for this type of foundational training for many individuals who are unable to attend our Atelier or another ARC approved program. We receive email requests on a weekly basis from all parts of the globe and as we are not accredited we are unable to assist with student visas. Our goal is to have the online program live in 18 months or less and to compliment the online program with twice yearly Watts Atelier Boot Camp Workshops where students come to Encinitas to work directly with Jeff and our staff for 8 straight days. Our inaugural Boot Camp Workshop was held last fall and was extremely well received with 28 students attending from as far away as Hong Kong and Italy." - Krista Watts |

| The Angel Academy of Art moved on April 10th into a new home in one of Florence’s beloved neighborhoods close to the city center. They have invested in the long-term future of the Academy by consolidating their campuses and moving both into a vast new studio space.
The exciting new state-of-the-art school was meticulously designed to meet the particular specifications for study of the old master’s techniques. The abundance of both natural and controlled lighting is balanced by deep olivecolored walls that accentuate skin tones. The temperature-controlled environment provides optimum comfort during working hours and an elegant exhibition gallery weaves around the studios displaying the remarkable works of students past and present. They will be hosting an open house of their new facility on April 28th. |

| Since Easter is right around the corner, we thought it an appropriate time to add this new article to the website by Kara Lysandra Ross, ARC director of Operations.
William Bouguereau (1825-1905), although well known for his paintings of peasant girls and mythological scenes, has also become one of the most beloved religious painters of all times. As a devout catholic, Bouguereau, as so many other religious painters, viewed his work as a form of worship, both of God, and of his most beloved creation, mankind. This article discusses five of Bouguereau’s most important religious works. Click here to read the article. |
